| Police Youth Academy Graduates October 2010 |
The Albany Police Department seeks motivated and
enthusiastic youth to participate in the Albany Police Activities League Youth Academy. This academy
will consist of eight weekly meetings.
Academy participants will be afforded an opportunity to the see day-to-day operations of the police department
and ride along with a police officer in the city of Albany. This program is intended to inspire good citizenship
and productive communication through a better understanding of the criminal justice system.
There will be field trips during the academy, which may include visits to the McCullum Youth Court, Alameda
County Juvenile Hall and the Alameda County Sherriff’s Office driving and force options simulator.
Academy instructors will provide information and guidance while participants explore
the many different aspects of modern law enforcement.
Courses of instruction may include
constitutional law, goals & objectives of the police department, criminal & traffic law enforcement, C.S.I, special
programs and services, police management, use of force, reserve officer program, police communications, and community oriented
policing. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Graduation for the 3rd Youth Academy was held on October 9,
2010. Families along with community members were on hand to recognize the hard work put in by the graduates and celebrate
their accomplishments.

November 22, 2008 was graduation day for the first Police Youth
Academy class. Nine young men completed the eight week course and were honored by their families, friends, and community
members. The highlight of the class was a field trip to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department for a special
training on driving and use of force scenarios.
